Committed To Our Patients
As Samaritan / Eduardo Luna Pérez – Ruibal, MD; We have been providing Medical Services to the community since 2001, in 2003 we worked as a Business Physician for important companies in Cusco, in 2004 we ventured into Traveler’s Medicine and in 2009 (apart from getting H1N1 Influenza on service ) We had a case that marked us: it was a young Canadian, (whose experience you can read in the comments of our patients, she is Mindy T.). As a result of this case so complex medically and logistically but also symbolic for us, is that we created the company, stripped of qualifications of goodness we simply called it Samaritan, inspired by the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan, who selflessly went to assist the Traveler assaulted and wounded in the way, whom he took to a lodging that he paid for with his own money, treated his wounds, fed him, recovered him and provided him with a horse so that he could return to his country of origin.
Thanks to the trust of many people, Hostels, Hotels, Local Travel Agencies, International Tourism Companies, Embassies, International Travel Assistance Societies and International Travel Insurance Companies, we had the honor of serving thousands of people from almost all countries that come to Cusco and we had the privilege of not only helping them but also learning about their customs, preferences and way of interacting with their Doctor. The experience has been extremely pleasant and the reward was the trust of all the parties involved, which generated that since 2011, almost unintentionally, an important English travel insurance company asks us for advice on the medical and logistical management of a case in Ecuador, we had a medical friend from the HOG biker community with whom we were able to efficiently direct this patient to safe care in Guayaquil and based on the good experience for the patient, for us and especially for the Insurance Company, they began to request help from us more frequently, so much so that even their affiliates and colleagues in Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America also began to ask us for support in coordinating the care of emerging cases in countries from Mexico to Argentina (the only countries where we still did not have the pleasure of having helped were Belize, Haiti or the Guyanas).
The range of services we provided ranged from coordinating an ambulance to take the patient from the Hospital to the Airport in Bogotá, to coordinating an Anti-Rabies Immunoglobulin in Fort Lauderdale for a patient bitten in the Amazon Rainforest or coordinating an air ambulance for a patient with dengue fever in San José, Costa Rica, paying the flight tickets of a fractured patient from Arequipa to Sydney, coordinating the urgent care of a heart attack patient in Quito, a neuro-surgical operation on an English patient in Punta Arenas in southern Chile and a long list that made us deserving in 2015 and on successive recognitions since then in a British magazine specialized in health.

Testimonials
While in Peru in September 2019, Dr. Luna Perez-Ruibal provided excellent medical care when I developed high blood pressure, likely in reaction to high altitude in Cusco. My blood pressure did not respond to medication right away even rose further. As a former hospital social worker, I knew the risk involved and was appreciative that this risk was taken seriously. Not only did Dr. Luna Perez-Ruibal provide excellent medical care and make himself readily available, he also responded promptly when I later requested a letter for insurance purposes by email.

During my studies abroad in Cusco, Peru, I began to experience a sore throat, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, a severe headache, and a fever. Since my symptoms had worsened, I sought medical attention from Dr. Luna. He was able to see me the same day I called. Dr. Luna immediately noticed the severity of my condition and promptly got me an appointment with an ENT specialist. Both Dr. Luna and his colleague decided it was necessary for me to be admitted to the hospital. I was terrified to be hospitalized in a foreign country with no family members nearby; However, Dr. Luna personally transported me to the hospital and reassured me of the situation. Dr. Luna was extremely compassionate towards me, and he communicated with my family members, via phone, about my care. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days, and Dr. Luna visited me 1 to 3 times each day. He ensured that I was receiving the highest quality of care, and he was very thorough in his work. Overall, Dr. Luna truly cares about his patients, and I would highly recommend his practice.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, With flights canceled I was about to find myself without medicine and was in need of a receta médica. I had reached out to many physicians in the area, but most had closed their practices during the quarantine. I found doctor Luna’s information from the the US embassy’s list of providers, for us who remained after the borders has closed. Dr. Luna was able to provide me with a telemedicine consultation, even though he was in Cusco. What a relief for me, as the pharmacies didn’t recognize my valid prescriptions. The teleconference appointment was over WhatsApp and everything I needed was verified and handled in a kind and respectful manor. Dr. Luna was quite understanding and extremely helpful! Overall Dr. Luna was attentive, timely, and efficient for the appointment setup, the appointment, and follow ups. I’d highly recommended Dr. Luna’s Telecare services to all who find themselves in need of a doctor’s consultation!

I will have to say that my experience dealing with Dr. Luna was absolutely top notch. I felt that he really cared about my well-being and did all that he could to make sure I could return safely to my home. Having never experienced a health crisis while outside the US (or inside the country for that matter! ) I was unsure of what to expect in the way of care. I must say that I was far more impressed with Dr. Luna’s treatment than I was with the way I was treated by my own health provider. He exhibited concern and empathy to my situation and fully explained my condition to me and to my wife. On the other hand, my provider at home treated me as simply a “number” even trying to delay an appointment to see a physician by 30 days! Truth be told, I’d be much happier with Dr. Luna as a primary care physician than any of the doctors at my local facility. I highly recommend him to anyone in the need of medical assistance.

I was Dr Luna’s patient in October 2019 when after a high altitude trek with my 14 year old son I became ill with altitude sickness complicated with a chest infection which resulted in some heart issues.
Dr Luna was called to my hotel in Cusco and he responded quickly and efficiently – he did observations and was very caring and concerned, recommending that he take me to hospital for further tests.
After initial tests I was admitted to ICU. During my 4 days in hospital in Cusco, Dr Luna visited me regularly to check my progress. He also arrange my transfer to hospital in Lima.
I am very grateful for the service and attention Dr Luna provided and I would recommend him to any travellers to Peru.

I would wholeheartedly encourage individuals to use the great medical services provided by Dr Eduardo…. Whilst I was trekking the Inca Trail I became unexpectedly gravely ill with rare case of HAPE- (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema). I found myself in intensive care in Cusco Peru. I was very lucky to survive. I know that I was so fortunate to receive the highest level of medical care and attention from Dr Eduardo who literally saved my life.
Dr Eduardo and his medical team, were very thorough in their treatment of my condition. They were also very attentive and reassuring to help me through a very frightening, life experience whilst be some far away from home.
I would not hesitate to recommend him to others, who may find themselves in need of any medical attention, as they will get nothing but first class treatment from start to finish from. Dr Eduardo goes above and beyond to show how much he truly cares about his patients; as he even followed up on my medical well-being even when I returned back to UK. He is a brilliant Doctor!, Thanks Dr Eduardo you for saving my life and enabling me to return to my family.

I was in Cusco, Peru, suffering from a serious fever and gastrointestinal infection that wasn’t going away, likely from something I ate. The local clinic in Cusco did not diagnose me properly, and gave me the wrong type of antibiotic. My fever and abdominal pains worsened to a level of severity that frightened me. That’s when I met with Dr. Luna through telemedicine on a video call. Dr. Luna asked me a series of questions and suggested a specific treatment of antibiotics, which resolved my month-long illness in just a few days. I’m so grateful for Dr. Luna’s help!

The care I received from Dr. Eduardo Luna and his colleagues was first class. Caring, efficient and effective. I recognised from our first meeting that I was in very capable hands which made me feel safe and relaxed in what could have been a tricky situation.
I think the most important aspect of the care was Dr Luna’s ability to explain everything that was happening to me and needed to happen, just wonderful.
I have only once before experienced such personal care from a doctor in 64 years of life. Should you be unfortunate enough to require medical assistance I know you will be very lucky to have him take care of you.
My friends back home have been told many times of the amazing care I received from Dr Luna😊

In June 2015, I traveled with a small group to Peru, headed for Macchu Pichu. In Cusco, I became very ill, requiring two weeks in the hospital there. I found myself alone, 11,000 feet up in the Andes, speaking little Spanish, my group having continued on without me. Dr Luna was with me every step of the way. He arrived at my hotel, got me to the hospital (I was unconscious at that point) and checked on me every day I was there. His care and concern were genuine and made all the difference in how I experienced all of this, both physically and mentally. I felt I was at all times in excellent medical hands, with an unexpected, and so much appreciated, degree of personal attention to my case.

I see Dr. Luna for an annual check up every year, he is very friendly, listen to all my concerns and questions and give expert medical advice. Unlike my experiences with US or UK doctors, there are no rush in the appointments and we are able to cover all the health concerns I have in one call. He is open to my use of alternative healing modalities along with any Western treatments required. Recommended.
